When the Veil Drops

It's almost time, kids!

The winds of Autumn rustle the trees and claw the ground, the landscape near and far enveloped by a creeping gloom. Those ancient rites of passage, first brought to these shores by generations of immigrants, howl for observance once more. All Hallow’s Eve laden with echoes of the Celtic celebration of Samhain, spun through the ages into this American tradition that we fondly call Halloween.

Tonight, I’ll gather my little family as we don our costumes and hit the pavement in our hometown for all the cherished sights and sounds associated with trick or treating! When the children have at last filled their buckets to heart’s content, we’ll rendezvous with old friends and indulge in chocolate treats and festive home haunts!

Remember, the veil between worlds is never thinner than on this night of mischief and fright. Spirits roam our realm unabated on Halloween — the stranger who offers a friendly nod from behind that mask may be no stranger at all.

Happy Halloween!
