Last night, I enjoyed the peace that only darkness can bring, and in that solitude from the comfort of my living room, I enjoyed the 2025 horror film, Weapons. An excellent entry in the annals of modern horror that placed a fresh twist on tried and true tropes, packaged neatly inside a fast-paced and tight-knit narrative. And boy, did those bewitched and violent characters stick with me.
I awoke several times last night from a dream in which I and a group of survivors were stalked relentlessly by an ancient evil. We ran, hid, and fought against zombie-like creatures who possessed an unrivaled bloodlust. After falling back into the dream on multiple occasions, the prolonged reverie concluded with myself and a group of adults and children barricaded in the corner store of a shopping mall fitted with floor to ceiling glass walls. The constant exposure left me feeling like vulnerable prey as we listened to guttural violence and horrified death cries in the distance.
The images of horror from that dreamscape refuse to be shaken from my head as a ceiling of thick, grey clouds settle above Metro-Detroit. A mixture of wind and rain breed an atmosphere of encroaching gloom, as the light slowly fades, Devil’s Night creeps slowly into our streets and invades our minds.
Haunted attractions across the country make a final stand for the 2025 Halloween season beginning tonight. Over the course of the next four nights, caution will be thrown to the wind as costumed revelers take to the streets in search of satisfying sweets and fun-filled thrills, an eclectic miasma of good fortune and bad omens. The dying days of any season of screams are an explosive mix of prophecy and chance, the open road knows many gnarled twists and dangerous curves.
Tonight, we make a mad dash toward the participants of the Clinton Township Neighbor-Haunt Crawl. Last year, we braved the Chaos on Coleman Street and then survived the monster-sized offerings at Attic Hatched Infestation! Many other attractions populate the fabled home haunt crawl, and on the eve we’re eager to cross a few more off our list!
