As active readers of Horrorlust know, Deranged has become quite the fixture in Romulus since a humble debut in 2018. Last night’s 18+ special event was the latest chapter in an attraction that has always prided itself on delivering a mixture of fun and fright. But did you know that prior to Deranged, Romulus was the home of another haunted attraction? For many years, The Huron Turkey Farm was home to The Realm of Haunted Minds.
As best I can tell, the folks at the ole turkey farm last operated The Realm of Haunted Minds in 2018. I myself enjoyed several trips to this location spanning the years 2008-2015. Want to take a trip back through those eerie nights? Check out my earlier haunt reviews below — a time capsule of thrills, screams, and nostalgia.

It’s always sad when a haunted attraction goes dark, but The Huron Turkey Farm is still in operation and offers various activities for children. There’s a miniature Old West town complete with saloon, barbershop, jail, and schoolhouse. My 3-year-old son made quite the obstacle course of the place, and later was entertained by the various props, movie memorabilia, and spooky animatronics located inside the charming bakery. Do not miss the bakery which boasts an array of scrumptious vittles. We snagged a dozen cinnamon donuts and one large cinnamon bun that had been drizzled with caramel — yes, it was all delightful.
And get this! The barn that once housed The Realm of Haunted Minds is still decorated with a few horror inspired props, and on the front door was a small, hand drawn sign that advertised a Fun House on weekends from 12:30 – 5p. Does the maze that once served The Realm of Haunted Minds still lie within? Have the sets been preserved as they last appeared in the haunted house?! Well, there’s only one way to find out, which is why next weekend I’ll be taking my boys for a tour of that fun house!
The Huron Turkey Farm, or Pumpkin Hallow Farm which it is playfully called in the fall, is located at 18910 Merriman Road in Romulus, Michigan. If you have questions, you can give the fine folks there a ring at 734-753-9187. This final weekend of the season at The Huron Turkey Farm will be October 24th and 25th. Need more information?
