The 2024 Wyandotte Cemetery Walk is scheduled for Friday, October 11th and Saturday, October 12th at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Due to practical concerns, this event has always had a limited number of tickets and typically those that are available sell out quickly. However, just this afternoon, I spoke with Museum Director Jesse Rose who reported that a small quantity of tickets remain available.
For those unfamiliar with the event, guests first congregate at the Ford-MacNichol Home where they’re treated to a presentation on Victorian Era mourning rituals. Next, ticket holders are shuttled to Mt. Carmel where Undertaker Henry F. Thon can be found just inside the cemetery gates.
From there, participants embark on a nocturnal stroll through the paths of Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Along the way, they’ll encounter various spirits from Wyandotte’s past, each eager to share a tale of scandal, sadness, and loss. I had the opportunity in 2018 to volunteer at this event as an actor, where I portrayed my maternal grandfather, Gerald, who was indeed laid to rest in Mt. Carmel Cemetery several decades ago.
Tickets cost $25 each, and it’s important to know that tickets are sold according to time slots. Also note that tickets are available for purchase only in person at the Wyandotte Museums Office inside the Burns Home located at 2624 Biddle Avenue.
