Wily Mistress, October

This blog has now been in existence for 11 years, and I’ve written about Halloween and haunted houses, in some fashion, for 16 years. Each and every haunt season is unique, and I must admit that 2022 has me feeling a mixture of emotions that range from exhaustion to nostalgia.

Throughout the nine seasons between 2007-2015, I found myself on the road touring and reviewing haunted attractions almost every weekend in the fall. The following six seasons that spanned 2016-2021 were overwhelmingly spent as a central figure with the Wyandotte Jaycees Haunted House. Now with two young children, both of those chapters in my haunted history have come to an end.

In my time as a haunter, I’ve had the pleasure to walk on both sides of the veil. Indeed, I went and came back with stories. I am proud of and grateful for that. I made friends and meet interesting people. I saw exhilarating attractions and forged unforgettable memories. Truly, the art of the scare is in my blood and I will carry it to the grave.

So yes, 2022 has cast me into limbo, but that doesn’t mean that there are no further memories to be made or additional stories to be told. As I write this, I open myself to the seductive energy of the Halloween season. I do this because, after all of these years, I still believe in the magic of October.
