With the arrival of fall we welcome back cool temperatures, haunted houses, and of course, Halloween! But it would be a crime to ignore another seasonal staple — horror comics! Now, horror comics are published throughout the calendar year, but for the past four years, one particular series, published by Image, has released a limited run beginning each September — Creepshow!
Volume 4 Issue 1 of the famed horror title released Wednesday, September 17th with upcoming monthly releases scheduled for October 22nd, November 19th, and December 24th. This year there’s even a Special Edition to be released on October 8th titled Super Creepshow! Each standard issue of Creepshow showcases two strange, eerie, and terrifying tales with the most recent release featuring “Tale As Old As Time” and “The Little House on the Left.” Each issue is capped off with Creep Corner, an area near the end of the comic dedicated to fan-submitted letters.
Of course, one fun aspect of the comic book industry is the popular tradition of variant covers. Above, you can see Cover A — something I often refer to as the main cover. But let’s not forgot to show some love for those variant covers which often delight just as much as Cover A.

Another comic that I recently picked up is Catacomb of Torment from the resurrected EC brand which is now published by Oni Press. Catacomb of Torment emerges in the wake of Epitaphs from the Abyss, it features a trio of horror hosts — The Tormentor, The Grim Inquisitor, and The Grave-Digger, who often bookend each tale with commentary steeped in mystery, irony, and gallows humor.
The September release of Catacomb of Torment is Issue #3 of the series which debuted in July. Each issue includes three short stories with the current issue featuring “Movie Night at the Marigold Inn,” “Intrusive Thoughts,” and “Couples Therapy.” Like Creepshow, Catacomb of Torment also highlights a letters section at the back of each issue.

Finally, from IDW Dark is the latest iteration of the timeless classic known as The Twilight Zone! In the tradition of Rod Serling’s original vision, the comic is printed in black and white. The beloved anthology series is scheduled for a 5-issue run with each stand alone story being penned by a different writer. Will you enter the 5th dimension this fall?
