Ethereal Transits of the Continuum
I sometimes use the following word to describe the feeling in the air on an October night spent haunting and indeed on many a Halloween night. Without further adieu here is the third installment of the 2012 Halloween themed Word of the Week. ethereal – [i-thir-e-el] – adjective: extremely delicate and light in a way that seems too perfect for this world;…
The Walking Dead Season Premiere, October Magic
In less than an hour AMC’s marathon of The Walking Dead will be over, and the season three premiere will be underway! My love for a good undead yarn is simply undying. Through two seasons I feel that the gripping apocalyptic series has been excellent, I am at a loss to come up with a series that matches the intensity,…
Superb Streak Continues
John and I enjoyed another full night of haunting on Friday. We paid tribute to the retiring Deadly Intentions, were surprised to find the resurrection of an old favorite at Sinister, and burned the midnight oil with some new friends at Exit 13 in Mt. Morris. As always a full review of the night’s activities will be posted shortly.
Friday Night Horror Trifecta
Another epic night of haunting is mere minutes away as John and I are set to hit the road once more! Tonight we head to Warren where we will bid a fond farewell to all the freaks and geeks that populate Deadly Intentions. After that we head to Utica for the fresh stylings of Sinister — we didn’t make it…
Blackout Haunted House a different Breed
Yesterday, I wrote briefly about the fabled Demonic Demons and the possibility that Zioptis had found a worthy successor — the news, as far as Michigan haunters are concerned, will undoubtedly be disappointing. The haunt in question is located in New York City, firmly outside most haunters seasonal bounds. The attraction is called Blackout and from what I’ve read it’s…
Demonic Demons, Horrorlust Spreads
I popped onto Zioptis earlier tonight and was excited to see a post about Demonic Demons in Detroit but before I could even get excited the entry merely confirmed what I already knew — Demonic Demons is not operating this year. However, Zioptis dropped a tantalizing piece of information claiming to have found a haunt of a similar and perhaps…
The Walking Dead Sneak Peek, Halloweekends
The Walking Dead has a new sneak peek posted at AMC’s website of the season three premiere. It isn’t anything earth shattering but it’s still a zombie freebie and I’ll take those all day long. Season three debuts this Sunday on AMC at 9 pm Eastern. Anybody looking to catch up on the series should tune into AMC beginning Saturday…
Illusion Lights the Soulful Eyes
Today’s entry is the second of five that will be found in this year’s Halloween themed Word of the Week and it was undoubtedly chosen after the thrilling journey we experienced at Slaughter House Adventure last Friday. Illusions and magic are just a few of the things that make the haunt season so enjoyable for people of all ages and Slaughter…
Elements Conspire but Erwin, Slaughter House Persevere
It isn’t often that our haunting party has so few but on Friday night it was only myself and John, the faithful Disco Devil, that were able to participate in what turned out to be a very fun night of haunting. Large portions of the state had experienced rain throughout the day and indeed as we departed the roadways along…
Attractions, Haunters Undeterred by Weather
It turned out to be an all around wonderful night of haunting yesterday. John and I successfully visited Erwin Orchards, Slaughter House Adventure, and A Nightmare on Elm Road. The rain and chill made sure that we earned our fun but even the elements couldn’t suppress the early season magic that stirred in the air last night. In addition to…
Anticipation, Storm Builds
It’s overcast and rainy in many parts of Metro Detroit and the weather will definitely have an effect on our outing. I called the fine folks at Slaughter House Adventure just moments ago and they confirmed that both the Haunted Corn Maze and the Blood Bath & Beyond Hayride have been shut down due to the rain. That is disappointing…
2011 Horrorlust Haunt Awards
As we get ready to set off on the first big haunted house outing of the season, we take a few moments to reflect on the best that last season had to offer. The Haunt Trinity recognizes nine dreadful categories, two of which are new this year. Our traditional seven categories include: Monster, Killer Automatons, Eerie Vibrations, Pulse Pounder, Dark…
The Walking Dead Webisodes
Apocalyptic drama The Walking Dead will return to AMC Sunday October 14 with the season three premiere! Anyone who knows me or who has thumbed through the entries here on Horrorlust is surely aware of my love of the zombie sub-genre and The Walking Dead is no exception. I’ll admit that I don’t watch a lot of television these days…
Friday Night Frights
The 2012 haunt season will commence in earnest this Friday, haunt fiends! Our first stop will bring us to Erwin Orchards in South Lyon approximately one hour from my apartment. The main attraction at Erwin’s is the Barn of Horrors, an attraction that Zioptis has raved about over the years. What can I say? I’m a sucker for barn haunts.…
Sinister Eyes where Shadows Lie
The calendar has flipped and it’s finally official — October 1st. With this comes news — haunt, horror, and Halloween news of course and there’s plenty of it. This particular post celebrates the 7th annual Halloween themed Word of the Week, but before we come to that, I have a few notes to share. Due to shooting part of the…
Updated 2012 Haunt Schedule
Listed below are various hypothetical trips, I’ve broken them up into two categories — main (the top list) and extra (the bottom list). I’m open to suggestions of course, but essentially the main category reflects what I feel are the top trips and therefore should be given priority over those in the extra category. Beginning Friday, September 28 through the…
Haunt Season Awakens with Visit to Scarefest Scream Park
I can only hope that our record breaking trip to Scarefest Scream Park is an omen of things to come for the 2012 haunt season. This past Saturday, John, Richard and myself made the journey to the village of New Haven, Michigan to explore, of course, the frights and sights offered at one of Michigan’s numerous scream parks! We were…
Weekend of Milestones
When I checked the mail yesterday afternoon it was to find the current issue of HauntWorld waiting for me. Today I hunted down a copy of the Fear Finder at a local Kmart thus making it the earliest I have ever obtained a copy. Finally, tonight myself and some veteran haunters are getting a jump start on the season with…
2012 Fear Finder Cover Released
The Fear Finder won’t hit the streets until this weekend but as the title above states, the cover has been revealed online! What do you guys think about this year’s cover? I like it. The evil scarecrow creature is kick ass and I love the farm as the backdrop. The entire composition jumps out at you, my only critique would…
Season of Fear Creeps Near
Today is one of those days when fall and the haunt season feel so tantalizingly close it’s almost painful. By this time next week the Fear Finder may very well be in my greedy little hands! And that is, of course, a very important document for myself and the Haunt Trinity. As much as I try and get an early…
